Cow’ssage & Trail'ssage

Whatever your discipline, riding is always a team sport—a partnership between horse and rider. And, athletes (equine and human alike) are more successful when physically prepared, confident in their skills...and can communicate effectively with their teammates.

Cow’ssage & Trail'ssage are geared toward the working Western disciplines and Working Equitation, as well as trail riding/competitions. They incorporate skills, drills & exercises from those specialties with dressage. As well as creating a well-trained horse, there's a focus to to supple, strengthen and balance the horse (thus improving its ability to perform).

Communication between rider and horse starts with a clear language the horse can understand, such as effective aids and queues using seat, legs, hands, balance, good horsemanship...and common sense.
What is Working Equitation?  A fun and exciting equine sport! Originally based on the cattle disciplines of Europe, it has extended to the United States, honoring the tack and attire of the American West. The international regulatory body is the World Association of Working Equitation. In the U.S., the organization is Working Equitation USA.

Competitions range from two to four parts. WEUSA has virtual competitions (generally using only the Dressage and Ease of Handling (obstacle phase). Other competitions include a timed, obstacle Speed phase. And (generally) team/internationals competitions include a fourth (Cow) phase.

The Dressage portion is a pattern-riding test, which ranges from Walk/Trot to Advanced (complete with Grand Prix-style movements). See my Working Equitation page for more information.
